A team of Scientists from the Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, Dr. Santan Bharthawal and Dr. Shailesh Pandey arrived in Bodhgaya on Monday, 23rd June 2025, for the routine health check-up of the sacred Bodhi Tree.
On Tuesday, 24th June 2025, the team visited the Mahabodhi Temple and conducted a detailed inspection of the Bodhi Tree. They visited the main trunk of the Bodhi Tree and observed that it was in good condition. Following their examination, the scientists confirmed that the tree is in excellent health, with lush green foliage and no visible signs of stress.

As is common during the onset of the monsoon season, some minor infestation by mealybugs was observed on a few small branches. In response, a chemical spray was applied under the supervision of the Scientists. Additionally, as a precautionary measure, a mild treatment was administered to ensure the continued well-being of the tree.
A dried branch of the Bodhi Tree which was infected was removed under the supervision of the Scientists to prevent any potential risk to the surrounding healthy growth. Besides these pruning of dead and weakened branches was also carried out.
