The arection of bamboo scaffolding work for the hydro-cleaning work of the sacred Mahabodhi Temple commenced on 17 February 2026 with solemn prayers and blessings offered by revered monks in a spiritually uplifting ceremony.


Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary, Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC); Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh, Member, BTMC;Venerable Bhikkhu Chalinda, Chief Monk of the Mahabodhi Temple; Bhikkhu Deenanand, Caretaker Monk of the Mahabodhi Temple; and Mr. Virendra Singh, Superintendent Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Bodhgaya Archaeological Museum were present to oversee the beginning of the work.
The hydro-cleaning initiative is being undertaken by the volunteer group “Chobtham” from Thailand as a gesture of devotion and service. The work is being carried out with utmost care and in strict adherence to established conservation guidelines to preserve the sanctity, structural integrity, and heritage value of the Temple.
In connection with the commencement of the work, coordination has been made with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for proper assessment and monitoring arrangements. An ASI representative will remain present during the erection of the non-invasive bamboo scaffolding and throughout the cleaning process to ensure full compliance with conservation norms and safety protocols.
