The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most sacred places for Buddhists worldwide, welcomed Ms. Elizabeth Lee, Director of the American Center and Public Affairs Officer for Mission India’s U.S. Consulate in Kolkata, on a visit today.



Ms. Lee was warmly greeted with a traditional khada by Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), Mr. Kiran Lama and Dr. Arvind kumar singh , members BTMC and Bhikkhu Dr. Deenanand, Temple caretaker monk. During her visit, Dr. Maharathi briefed Ms. Lee on the historical and spiritual significance of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara, highlighting its role as the site where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.
Inside the sacred shrine, senior monks performed a special chanting of mantras, invoking blessings for Ms. Lee. Following the ceremony, Ms. Lee spent time in quiet meditation under the holy Bodhi Tree, an experience that deeply connected her to the spiritual essence of the site.
To commemorate the visit, the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee presented Ms. Lee with a replica of the Mahabodhi Temple, a holy Bodhi leaf, and publications of the BTMC as tokens of appreciation. Ms. Lee expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality.
